A Little About The Displays
My name is Darrel and I am 28 years old and reside in Cleona,Pennsylvania with my family. That's about 20 minutes East of Hershey, PA; where all the Hershey Kisses come from. I started decorating when I was 6 years old helping to decorate the tree inside. It all started from there.
I set up a light display that consists of approx. 27,000 lights. Most of them being miniature, I also decorate with C-9's, C-7's, and L.E.D.’s. The Christmas display is set up as a walk-through throughout the backyard and side yard.
When I was younger I my parents would always take me to a large Christmas Display a gentleman did with the help from his friends. That's where my inspiration came from to what I do today.
Back in 2006 my display started to grow to what you see today. Before then it was just a few lights around the front and backyard.
2010 was the first year I went animate with my first Light-O-Rama system. It consists of 128 channels of computer control and one Cosmic Color Ribbon.
I also decorate the inside of the house with approx. 1,000 lights. About 800 of those lights are on the tree alone. All of the rest of the lights are throughout the rest of the inside of the house. Also inside I decorate with music boxes, ornaments, garland, tinsel and just about everything else that you could think of. I also set up a Christmas Village consisting of buildings, trees, people, cars and of course a train. My father and I are into model trains as well as the real ones and I just had to add some trains into the light display somewhere.
For my two larger displays (Halloween and Christmas) I get some extra help from friends in the area who come over and help me set up the lights. Also, I get help from time to time from my family too. I am grateful for the help and support I get from my friends, family and others around the community and from my friends from the Christmas Forums I belong to. Without the help and support from them, my displays would not be possible.
Other than the Christmas and Halloween light display, I set up other smaller displays for various other holidays of the year. This includes Flag Day, Memorial Day, Easter, the 4th of July, Labor Day and Valentines Day.
I synchronize my Christmas lights to music using off the shelf hardware and software from
Light-O-Rama. To learn more here is the link to their website http://www.lightorama.com/.
